Trials and Triumphs

Sorry our update is a little late from coordinating information on two continents. Below is part of Verlin's Facebook/mobile phone reports from time in Ouagadougou last week:

"Wednesday I visited a village of Burkina Faso where the pastor introduced people to the Gospel Light that guides the transformation of the entire community. The increasing numbers of Christians in the Muslim village use what they have to start or improve education, water and food security, and crop resale through storage. The church planting effort progressed from being refused a lot of land to meet, to having a prime place given to promote the ministry. The anticipation of blessing is so great that after three years, the initiating team moves to a new region as the team in the villages begins training to train other villages in what they have done. I did not get their count of how many have been added to the church, though. On Friday I asked the conference host, but he did not know the numbers. (He took me to another village with more than 70 converts, explaining his church just hosted the event). I just know that the chief told them to keep building. They did 20% of the well cost initially; 100% of the teacher's house, grain storage, church building with their own money, time and mud and healthier bodies because of nutrition and gardening teaching in the first village; 100% of the costs for the well, church building with water collection and solar power for lights, music, and the pastor's house in the second village. They were great looking buildings using appropriate technologies, too. I pray this transformational power becomes a dominant expression of Christ here, as well as through our U.S. churches again, one soul at a time."

Prayer and Praise
  • Pray for our successful follow-up to people who requested CHE training this week, as well as follow-through by Africans who made commitments to reach out to over 400 new villages!
  • Gunman opened fire on the beaches of the tourist town of Grand-Bassam in Cote d'Ivoire on Sunday, March 13. Sixteen people were killed, including Europeans. Pray that we will be faithful sharing the Good News so that this worldview does not conquer West Africa.
  • Our email distribution service which sends these updates is getting rejections on quite a few email addresses. They have been trying to correct the problem for about two weeks. Ask the Lord to help us get this issue resolved before Debbie leaves for Cote d'Ivoire on April 9.
